Rxisks founder Bob Schwartz recently proposed policy reform on mass shootings, particularly in schools and involving teenagers, focuses on the potential link between psychiatric medications and violent behavior. Our proposal advocates for stricter oversight through mandatory psychological evaluations before prescribing such drugs, better regulation of prescriptions to ensure transparency about side effects, and a public awareness campaign to educate on the risks of psychotropic medications. Additionally, we suggest improved systems for reporting and tracking adverse reactions to these drugs that might correlate with violent incidents. The policy aims to combine these measures with traditional approaches like gun safety and cognitive therapy to reduce mass shootings, emphasizing education over immediate medication.
